After close to a decade out of the spotlight, TLC are releasing a new single, titled “Meant To Be.”
It has been over a decade since TLC released their last album, 3D. For those that can recall, their last studio offering came less than a year after Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes passed away in a car accident while filming a documentary. The remaining two members – Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins – have been orchestrating a comeback together, with a new single included.
Don’t expect a brand new album, however. The track “Meant to Be” appears destined for a VH1 biopic, for which they recorded the soundtrack. Although an official release date has not been announced, “Meant To Be” is expected to come out over the next week. Ne-Yo penned the track for the two singers.
Their official Twitter account announced the single: “New TLC single #MeantToBe will be out soon!”
3D came out in October 2002, seven months after Lopes passed, and was certified platinum that same year. Over the past decade, the two remaining members released two greatest hits collections. A third is now slated for October 2013, although four new tracks are expected to be included. There’s no word whether “Meant to be” will be added or is exclusively for the biopic.
Over the course of their career, TLC have sold 23 million albums and 6.5 million singles in the U.S. and 65 million global releases – making them the second-most successful girl group after the Spice Girls, sales wise.
Along with the planned single and biopic, Chilli and T-Boz appeared on J. Cole’s “Crooked Smile” and performed at the OVO Fest this year.
